Since the times of ancient Greece, organizers of sports entertainment events and gladiatorial competitions in the arena began to understand how important a factor in this matter is sound. Consequently, even ancient stadiums and arenas were built in such a way that, due to their geometry, the acoustic properties were improved.
An example of such a structure is the globally famous amphitheater Colosseum - an arena for gladiator fights, animal fights, and other events organized by Roman leaders for citizens. Also, nowadays, sound support for sports competitions is a very important task.
It's no secret that modern sports competitions or other public events held at both outdoor and indoor sports facilities are unlikely to do without musical equipment. These can be either small acoustic systems or a comprehensive sound reinforcement system, allowing presenters and judges not to lose their voices when announcing the results of sports competitions, as well as providing musical accompaniment for the event.
Of course, a person responsible for the physical support of a sports facility, coming to a specialized store with the thought “I’ll buy acoustics,” must know some rules that will allow him to make a positive choice. These rules are obvious to expert sound engineers, however, people far from this craft may not know them:
- indoor sports facilities can make do with sound systems of lower power than outdoor areas;
- due to sound-reflecting surfaces (glass, concrete, metal, etc.), the acoustic properties of indoor halls and open stadiums deteriorate. To improve, it is necessary to carry out an acoustic calculation to determine and reduce the reverberation time. And this, in turn, means installing additional sound-absorbing panels, or some special arrangement of acoustic systems. In a bad case, poor acoustics will affect both the results of the athletes and the comfort of the spectators;
- outdoor sports facilities require more sound power;
- when choosing equipment, it is worth understanding the compatibility of components, purpose and characteristics.
In total, equipping a sports facility with acoustic systems is a rather difficult process, including:
- knowledge of the acoustic properties of the room and ways to change the acoustics of the room until the music speakers sound comfortable;
- development of the audio system design and selection of appropriate equipment and components;
- solution for proper placement of sound equipment at a sports facility
- competent installation and configuration of audio equipment.
For such complex tasks, there is a company called Express Sound, which specializes in sound solutions for sports facilities.
